Sidney's First Dress

We bought our little Sid a sewing machine for Christmas last year.  Over the past few months she has been sewing on and off and slowly learning how to do it.  Yesterday out of the blue she asked if she could go through my scrap box.  Of course I said yes!  She created a dress all by herself and I'm so proud :)  The only thing she didn't design and create on her own are the lines of stitching down the front of the bodice.  I created those a few weeks ago for a failed project (a fancy dress for Sid for picture day).  Did I mention she's 9?

Jess if you are reading this, don't worry!  I didn't forget about you and all of your gorgeous creations over the past few months.  I just need to take some good pics of them and then they will have their own post or posts too.  I'm very proud of you and your creations too.

So here is Sid modelling her first dress:

I hope you like this as much as I do.

Hope you had and are having a wonderful day!

Patchwork Fabric Basket (better pics)

I don't usually follow tutorials completely.  I almost always change something or other.  This tutorial by Ayumi on her blog Pink Penguin is an exception.  When you look at my version you will see how truly unskilled I am at quilting.  I still love how it turned out though and so did Sid.  She wanted it immediately and I was happy to give it to her.  It was practice for Christmas presents so all in all I'm pleased.  It's got lots of flaws, not the fault of the tutorial but totally my doing.  I hope I get better at it as I create more for loved ones.

The patchwork fabric is from some fat quarters I had in my stash.  The linen is upcycled from a shirt I got at the thrift store.  And yes I used neon orange thread, I think I'm addicted to my neon thread.  My last 6 or 7 projects have been sewn with it.  Go check out Ayumi's Blog - Pink Penguin for more great tutorials and many beautiful and beautifully sewn items to drool over.

Hope you had and are having a wonderful day!

Grade 1 Denim and Daisy Outfit (better pics)

This little outfit had been on my mind for a while.  When I found a barely worn denim skirt at the thrift store (ladies size XL) it really took shape in my mind.  The daisy fabric is quilting cotton from my stash, purchased in SK at least 3 years ago.  I never used it for it's original purpose, which I now forget, but I was glad to see how well it went with the denim.  The elastic for the waistband is also from the thrift store.  Allie likes the outfit the most of the two I think.  She wears it at least once a week.

Maybe one day she will actually pose for me.  As you scroll down you will see a pic of her posing in front of the outfit lol.  She wanted nothing to do with actually modelling it for a photo shoot.

Warning: there are a lot of pics in this post!

Brown Linen Grade 1 Dress (better pics)

So this year I really wanted to sew all of my kids a few back to school items.  That plan got derailed when I decided to go back to SK for the month of August.  I did get a few things done for Allie though.  This Brown dress was upcycled from a skirt I bought at the thrift store.  The local thrift store has $5.00 bag days.  You get a brown paper bag when you walk in the door and you can cram whatever you want into it.  I look for nice fabric in bigger sizes so that I can bring them home and upcycle them.  After a little thought this is what I ended up with.  Allie seems to like it and wears it regularly.  I plan to make a long sleeve top and some leggings to match this week.  Top and leggings with be made with thrifted knit in while and teal stripes.

Once again sorry for the not so great pics but these are better than the first ones I posted!!!  By far!!  It has a bubble hem and the colorful fabric was from a fat quarter I've had in my stash for a few months.

Hope you had and are having a wonderful day!

KCWC Day 3

Day 1 and 2 were a no go for me.  My hubby was in town, and since we only see him for a week every 6 to 10 weeks, that meant no sewing for me.  I'm ok with that cause I am seriously missing the man!!  After 23 years together not spending everyday with him (he's still in SK settling our affairs there) is hard.  Hopefully it's almost over though :)

So for Day 3 I managed to sew a new top for Sid.  She picked the fabric out herself, so she loves it and wore it to school today.  Without further ado I give you KCWC Day 3 - Thrifted orange fabric dolman sleeve top with tie at the waist.

Please forgive the really horrible pictures.  I am really not a good photographer and it was raining outside so I had to make to with against the wall shots.  Not great I know but I hope you get the general idea.

I have some new pictures ready of the first few projects I posted so I will be re-posting those plus I have a tutorial for this shirt in the works and a few other cute KCWC items on the way.

Hope you had and are having a wonderful day :)
