Camping and some vintage style shorts :)

We went camping at Wadin Bay over the weekend.  It was fun as usual and it was especially nice to make some new memories there.  I think it's been about 6 years since we went there as a family.  Curious thing we discovered, which I had never noticed before, it can be spelled Waden or Wadin depending on what sign you look at and if you are talking to a local or someone from out of town.  The local way seems to be Wadin which is how I have always spelled it but the sign on the highway says Waden and the Saskatchewan parks site spells it Wadin.  So take your pick I guess!

First up are some pictures of Allie wearing a shirt I made for her 3 years ago!!!  Yes it still fits my skinny mini!! and a pair of vintage style shorts that I used this tutorial from Dana found on MADE. I didn't use Dana's pattern (sorry Dana!) but only because I try not to spend money on my sewing.  I made a pair for Allie using an old sheet and the bias was made from a vintage sheet (70's, I know cause I had the same sheet in purple as a child).  I made a pair for Sid too using the same navy sheet and bias made from the pink vintage sheet I used for her romper seen I didn't use Dana's pattern (sorry Dana!) but only because I try not to spend money on my sewing.  I made a pair for Allie using an old sheet and the bias was made from a vintage sheet (70's, I know cause I had the same sheet in purple as a child).  I made a pair for Sid too using the same navy sheet and bias made from the pink vintage sheet I used for her romper seen here.

These pictures weren't taken specifically to show the shorts but to show Allie's muscles :)

The edge of the leg is flipped up but they still look so comfy!

Your are so beautiful Allie!  Even when you make strange faces :)

Important conversations took place on the hammock.  I am very glad I bought it years ago because the kids use it a lot when we camp.  Especially not that they are all old enough to get on and off by themselves.

I love the look on her face here but she doesn't!  It makes me wonder what they were talking about.

The obligatory teen self portrait by Jess.

Phil took them out in the canoe (Thanks Rory for lending it to us!!) and Coda joined them.  I think this was one of the highlights of the weekend for all of them.

Jess finally went swimming on the last day during the last few minutes we were at the beach.  The water is so cold here in Northern Saskatchewan that it's hard to convince yourself to go in sometimes.

LOL she hates this picture.  I took it just after she went into the water.  This is how she looks when she isn't having fun yet!!!

Allie played by herself at the park for about an hour while Sid and AJ were swimming and canoeing with Phil.

Tonka at almost a year old.  She is getting very dominant and attacked Coda for a watermelon peel very soon after this.  I love her lots and when we are alone she is an amazing dog but with Coda she is horrible!!!  I really hope she can be trained out of her dominance as she matures.

My beautiful Sid!!!

Coda at 9 years old is finally becoming a sort of obedient dog lol.   She is mellowing and slowing down a bit but most people don't believe she is 9 when they meet her.  That husky blood just keeps on ticking!!

A.J. chilling in the water.

Ha ha Phil is not going to be happy that I posted a picture of him but I love him so I did <3  Deal with it babe mwah!

Well that's 15 out of 356 pictures from out camping weekend.

New Hair for Sidney :)

Sid has a lot of hair.  In the Summer it gets HOT so this Summer we decided to go for a look I had when I was 16.  I loved my hair like this and am a bit jealous to be honest.  Sigh.  Most of the time I love getting older, but some things are taboo for a 40 year old that are just cool for a 10 year old :)

Yes, this is after her hair was cut.  Can you tell?

She didn't believe us when we said no one would notice unless she wanted them to notice.

So we took pictures to prove it to her.  Oops looks like I messed up when I edited this one!!!

She is such a gorgeous girl both inside and out.  She was voted as the most "fair" person in her grade this year.  It made me so very proud of her <3

Daddy you are pulling to hard!!

This feels cool!

Looks pretty darn cool too!

I am gonna play shy though because it's fun :)
I love how cool you are my Sidney girl!!

Love it Mom and Dad, thanks!!  Ha ha it looks more like she is saying she is not really sure yet but I think she likes it.  I know she has fun waiting to see who notices and who doesn't!!!  Seems like some of her old friends are observant enough but the boys aren't.

The kids are enjoying seeing some of their old friends here in La Ronge and it makes me happy to see them happy.  In their hearts this is still home to them.

Happy Summer everyone!

Summer KCW - PJ Shorts

Ok so it's day 6 of Summer KCW and this is all the kids clothes sewing I've done, but better one thing than nothing :) and since he really needed them, I call it a win.

I made 1 pattern piece PJ shorts for AJ.  The pattern is a self drafted one that was originally for Sidney but I redrafted it to make some nice roomy PJ shorts for AJ.  I used one meter of green flannel and I plan to make him at least 2 more pairs.  Even in the Winter we usually sleep in shorts around here but AJ has been left out for the most part.  For some reason I can never seem to make shorts that fit him properly.  That changed yesterday, finally!!!!  The fit is awesome, exactly what I was going for and exactly what he likes for laying around playing video games.  And the best part is, these should fit him for a few years.  I was able to wear them, though getting them over my hips was a squeeze, and Jess was able to get them on no problem.  Score!!

A curious thing happens when I take pictures of the clothes I sew

I start with the clothes, but very quickly switch to admiring my kids.

They fill me with awe and amazement.  The spirit, imagination and pure awesomeness never ceases to amaze me.

AJ always cracks me up.  His fun loving and simply him personality really shines on camera.  When I asked him to let me know the next time he "died" (he was playing a video game) so that we could go take pictures of his new shorts, I didn't even make it back to my room before he called me.  So out to the backyard we went.  There are at least 50 more awesome AJ poses on my camera but I narrowed it down to the ones above.

I hope everyone is having an amazing Summer!   We are in Saskatchewan keeping Phil company and really hoping that the shop will be sold soon.  Every Summer when I leave here for the drive back to Quebec I look back as we pass the La Ronge sign and wonder if I will ever see it again.  So far I always have lol.

Happy Sewing!!
