Recycled/Upcycled Christmas/Holidays will be coming next week!!

Starting next Monday, October 7th, 2013 I will be posting one Christmas/Holiday Gift DIY idea per day two weeks.  I may add more days at the end but I don't want to exhaust myself so I think two weeks is doable.  Since my family has a variety of religious beliefs I called it Recycled/Upcycled Christmas/Holidays. I want everyone who has a gift to give this season (and really whenever!!!) to be able to DIY for less. I am a big fan of using what I have because I really have no other option if I want to be creative and I want to share.

If anyone out there in the World has a super Recycled/Upcycled DIY Gift idea please feel free to leave a comment or hit the contact button and send me an email. I would love to hear from someone.

Here is the code for a clickable button if you want to put it in your sidebar.  I would love it if someone shared it for me lol :)  Just copy and paste it.

Well life got in the way of this series and so did my lack of planning.  I am going to edit it and say November 1st to November 15th.  So wish me luck and please come back regularly to check out what I've created and shared.

Antique Trailer Triangle Papers

Just click on the preview to go to the download :)

This is why I called the kit Antique Trailer.  To save the color scheme just right click on it and save as.

Herding Cows in my Escalade!!

Sometimes this is what happens when you live in the country.  We were coming home from Jessica's Writing Club reading at the library and this is what we saw on the way.  5 cows had escaped from their home and were scattered over the highway.  When I drove slowly towards them they grouped together and ran in front of us!!!  It was so funny and we were glad we had my camera handy.  I hope these lovely ladies found their way home last night :)

The kit used to scrap this will be a free download soon.  It's called Antique Trailer and I just have to get it all uploaded to 4shared.

Brown Linen a Year Later and What to wear when you are 10 and gorgeous :)

Almost a year ago I made this Brown Linen Dress for Allison for Grade 1.

Since then she has grown a few inches and it has been washed uncountable times.

At first I resisted washing it because I had never sewn with or owned anything linen before. Once I did wash it I was surprised.  It didn't do too badly in the washer or the dryer and I kind of like the crinkle factor.

The leggings are self drafted and sewn from some knit I picked up at a garage sale.

They work well for pretending you are a lion but I think they could be a tad tighter.

Most of the time this is what the ties look like but I am ok with it.  I hate to iron and honesty it took me years to realize that it makes my sewing so much better.

These two are really starting to connect.  The three years between them seems less of a gulf now.

They are also home alone together after school this year since A.J. has gone off to high school (gasp!).

Here is classic Sidney.  She is truly a goof!!

And as always this outfit is great for climbing trees.

So I wanted to talk about Sidney's outfit a bit because I love it on her and I think it suits her well.  She is wearing a Tapout shirt and some thrifted longer length shorts.  She put this outfit together herself and as soon as I saw it it just made me smile because it is so Sidney.  Cool and girly but also tomboyish.  She is growing up so fast but still retains her fighting spirit.  I love you girls!!!

Pink and Grey are perfect for play!

I made this outfit months ago.  In the spring in fact but it was too big for her then so I saved it for the fall.

Well she grew so much over the summer that I am lucky it fits her!!!

The pants are from an old Butterick Busybodies pattern I bought at a garage sale.  The bolero is from a Simplicity pattern I bought years ago, probably 10 to 12 years ago.  I made the dress and the little jacket for Jess for a Christmas concert when she was 7!!!

It's not a very good picture of them.  This is the main reason I haven't done any tutorials yet.  Not only am I a horrible photographer but I have nowhere to take the pictures and no money to invest.  I have been thinking lately that I should maybe buy some white poster board and tape it up somewhere but it wouldn't solve the lighting issue.

She wasn't thrilled about having to stay still for a minute.

But she did a great job and I took tons of pictures of her where she decided on the pose.

That made her happy.

The pocket is really simple to do and I wish I had thought of it on my own so I could incorporate it into a pattern of my own!!!  But alas I didn't.

I love how this picture turned out in terms of lighting and color and clarity.  Too bad she was running away!!!

And this is why she was running away.  Her big brother and sister and their friends arrived at the park.  We have a vintage park :)  That's what you get in the country but I'm not complaining because at least we have a park!!

Me at 40 - Through Sidney's Eyes

Like many women I dislike pictures of myself and generally avoid the camera.

My 40 year old shape is not my friend.

However I have 3 daughters and I believe it's important for me to love myself so that they learn to love themselves.

So here I am through Sidney's eyes at 40.

I am a wife and a mommy to 4.

Time has changed my shape and had added some winkles and sags.

But I'm still me and I'm still beautiful.  I try to tell myself this but I don't usually believe it.

My kids don't care if I have a bit of weight around the middle and wrinkles around my eyes.  And they couldn't care less if I sag a little.

They make me so proud and I want to do the same.  I want them to see me as a Mom to be proud of.  I hope they will read this one day and know that posting pictures of myself is hard but that I am doing it so that when they are 40 they will still love themselves.

Banyan Pants - Finally took some pics of them

Beautiful Red Banyan Pants.  Allie's version of modelling :)

Hmm I wonder if I can climb this tree?   Those of you who have read my blog before know that Allie loves climbing trees.  She just couldn't resist today.

Yep!  Even without branches I can do it!

So now you know, Banyan Pants are perfect for climbing trees.

Roomy and comfortable, perfect for swinging from branches too!!

I love the details on these pants and I'm glad that I top stitched in a contrasting color.

Allie appreciates the pockets.

And I love how they are just a tad to long for her so they bunch up around her ankles.  How cute are they?

This was the first zipper fly I ever did and I'm pretty proud of it :)  It's not perfect but it doesn't look totally horrible either.

The top is one I made for Sidney last year and it was actually a fail.  I didn't follow the directions in the pattern envelope and the neckline ended up looking really weird so I added elastic.  It ended up looking cute anyhow.  I also added the band at the bottom because the bubble look is much cuter than the baggy look.

In this picture she was really upset because her brother had let her toad go.  Poor girl!

This pattern was amazing and I am going to sew it again soon.  Maybe this week for the Plaid Challenge for week 2 of PR&P.
