Pop of Color - PR&P Week 1 - Popover Remix

Well I finally did a PR&P sew along!  I have been contemplating it for a few seasons but I never feel inspired.  The popover dress by Oliver & S. inspired me though :)  I hope you like what I did!

She looks so grown up!  So firstly I cut off some of the length.  This is a size 8 cut at the size 2 length.

Then I added some awesome circle pockets!!!  I am thrilled with them because I have wanted to try this for a long, long time!!

Then I decided it needed to be a hi/low dress.  Doesn't it look adorable?

And I made the yoke of the dress into just binding because the neon pink fabric is very thin and I could see the denim through it.

For the straps I made them fixed because for some reason the tie type NEVER stay tied on Allie!!

And the best part of all?  This adorable and modern (I think?) dress only cost me $4!!  Yep for real!

I started with the pattern which is a free download here: Oliver & S. Popover  Then I took out these jeans which I paid $0.50 for at my local thrift store.  The stripes on the denim don't show up very well in the pictures but I loved the texture.  The neon pink fabric I bought for $2.00 a meter about 5 years ago.  I never used it because neon wasn't in then and because it's a weird nylon fabric.  I wasn't sure what to use it for.  The capris were given to Allie by a friend who grew out of them so they were free!!

The headband I drafted based on what I wanted and both Allie and I love how it turned out.  I love how oversized it looks  And I love her smile in this picture!!  She was twirling and she has her magic wand in her hand.  I'm glad she was happy <3

If anyone wants a tutorial showing exactly how I got my large round looking pockets just leave me a comment.  I am thinking of doing one but it would be nice to know if there is interest,  Thanks!!

  4. Nice job "aging up" the design a little bit. I have an almost 10 year old (she is very small and the size 8 would fit her easily) but couldn't figure out how to make the design less babyish. I ended up sewing it for my soon-to-be-adopted toddler niece instead. I really love the circle pockets, especially.
